During his recent appearance on The Jimmy Dore Show Professor Xueqin Jiang argued that the intellectual class—journalists, professors, academics—are the "parasites" most dedicated to defending the existing system because their power and privileged lifestyles depend on proximity to the elite, which is why they embraced authoritarianism during COVID and continue defending failed vaccines. He and Jimmy cite C. Wright Mills' 1950s book The Power Elite and Katherine Liu's concept of the "professional-managerial class" to explain how liberals have become the most illiberal people, more interested in maintaining their privileges than in truth or freedom.
